"I was diagnosed in June 2010 with breast cancer not long after my 30th birthday.  I actually went to my doctor for a check up before trying for children; he did a check and found a lump in my right breast.  A few monthly earlier I had started working for Rigon Headwear in Australia and knew about their beautiful headscarf collection called Christine. This was a small part of the Rigon business but one the directors were very keen in growing.

During my treatment I also found out how hard it was for women to get the information they needed to make choices. The last thing you need to be worried about is your appearance but it also makes you feel brighter about the day if you have something nice to wear. I have had the opportunity to wear the scarves in our collection. As with many clothes, not all of them suited me, or my lifestyle, but to have the choice and be able to wear something that did suit me AND was comfortable was a blessing. So many other scarves that women wear are uncomfortable, unsightly or really just scream cancer and as a younger women, I felt old and hot wearing a wig, but fashionable wearing Christine.

"The materials used in the Christine scarves meant nothing to me before my diagnoses. But now I understand why such care and concern has been taken in choosing each type of material. I had rashes and sore spots all over my head for a period of my treatment. But the soft materials never irritated my scalp and with all natural shampoo actually reduced my irritations.

We have too many women in our local area with the need for the Christine scarves and the local wig shops carry our brochures. Women come into our warehouse at least weekly and try on the scarves they like, for the same reason I did, to see what suits and is comfortable for them. I’m a bookkeeper and not a sales person but I love being able to help these women and make them feel a little bit more beautiful when they are at their worst time in their lives. I also feel that these women appreciate that I am someone that is coming out the other side of the journey they are about to start.

Unfortunately not all women can come in and try on our beautiful scarves and my mission is to get enough shops, pharmacies, hospitals gift stores or wig stores to stock this beautiful range so that any women in Australia affected by cancer has the opportunity to try a Christine headscarf on if they want too. We also provide a phone or internet service that is growing thanks to Breast cancer nurses and hospitals stocking our brochures.

I am not saying that Christine is the only way to go, I am just saying try one on and see how it feels. If you like get it. If not there are other options that may suit you." - Becky McArdle book keeper Rigon Headwear distributor for Christine Headwear in Australia
